Oran Mor Pipe Band |
|---|
| "Oran Mor" or "great song" in Gaelic embodies the spirit of the ORAN MOR Pipe Band. Since its formation in the fall of 1992 by Donald Lindsay, Jim Clough and Bill MacNeill, the band has shared its dedication to the "great song" and the traditions of Scottish pipe band music with eager audiences at Highland games, festivals, and concerts across the Northeastern United States, Ontario and Quebec. During the band's first four years it competed at the Grade III level. Following a convincing first place finish in 1996, it was promoted to Grade II. The now four time and current 2002 Eastern United States Grade II Champions, the band is has proven itself as one of the premiere pipe bands on the east coast. In addition to being a strong competition band, Oran Mor is also recognized as "a musician's" band, known not only for exciting music and dynamic programs but also for its Highland Dancers to create powerful staged productions featuring the entire band playing for as many as sixteen dancers. The crowd excitement Oran Mor generates on the competition field is magnified in concert where the band has greater freedom to demonstrate its musical repertoire. The band has also been active in bringing top level drumming resources to the Capital District. Oran Mor has sponsored several well-received workshops featuring J. Reid Maxwell, Lead Drummer for the four time World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, during the past four years. If you would like to take up the challenge and join us, please contact P/M Donald Lindsay. As always, we look forward to seeing you at the games, concerts and festivals where we will be playing. We hope that you will take the opportunity to visit with us afterwards, as we like to get to know fellow devotees of the "oran mor" of pipe band music!
